Mulberry Gap: A Hidden Gem

Location

Mulberry Gap is nestled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s a haven for outdoor enthusiasts seeking tranquility and adventure. There are so many different trails in this area for either bike or trail hiking/running.

Accommodations

Mulberry Gap offers cozy cabins, campsites, and a welcoming lodge. Imagine waking up to the crisp mountain air, sipping coffee on your cabin porch, and gearing up for a day of exploration. This is where I stayed and it was just what I needed since it was just myself and needed a place to spend a night or two. It was my base camp and was great to have access to a hot tub if needed, showers and bathrooms all within a short walk.

Trail Access

From Mulberry Gap, you can access various trails, including the famous Pinhoti 3 Trail. Let’s dive deeper into this great out and back.

Overview

  • Length: Approximately 9.2 miles (out and back) My GPS Watch had 9.6 with going to the Overlook
  • Terrain: Challenging, with singletrack and gravel sections
  • Highlights: Stunning vistas, dense forests, and a chance to spot wildlife
  • Trailhead: Starts right from Mulberry Gap’s front gates

Trail Experience

  • Singletrack Bliss: Pinhoti 3 (P3) treats hikers to almost entirely singletrack trails. The crunch of leaves underfoot, the scent of pine, and the occasional glimpse of wildlife make this trail unforgettable. I saw many different birds, could here all that nature can bring. Squirrels, chipmunks lizards and millipeds.
